شکل های کوتاه واژه ها          Contractions

We often "contract" or shorten words in English. For example, we may say "he's" instead of "he is". Note that we usually insert an apostrophe (') in place of the missing letter or letters in writing. Here are some example sentences:

  • I haven't seen him. (I have not seen him.)
  • Who's calling? (Who is calling?)
  • They're coming. (They are coming.)

We do this especially when we speak. We do not contract words so much in writing.

Contractions are very common in spoken English. They are not so common in written English. We may use contractions in a friendly letter, for example, but they are not usually correct in more formal texts such as business letters or essays. If you have to write an essay in an exam, do not use contractions. The only exception to this would be when you quote somebody within your essay, for example spoken dialogue.

 

شکل های کوتاه واژه ها

ما بیشتر وقت ها از شکل های خلاصه یا کوتاه واژگان استفاده می کنیم.برای نمونه ممکنه ما به جای he is  ازhe’s استفاده کنیم.دقت کنیم که ما معمولا یک اپاستروف یا ویرگول را به جای حرف یا حروف حذف شده قرار می دهیم.

ما این کار را بیشتر در هنگام حرف زدن انجام می دهیم.شکل کوتاه کلمه ها خیلی در نوشتار به کار نمی رود.

 

شکل های کوتاه بیشتر در گفتار انگلیسی رایج هستند و در نوشتار خیلی رایج نیستند.ما معمولا از شکل های کوتاه شده برای نمونه در یک نامه ی دوستانه استفاده می کنیم اما کاربرد آنها در متون رسمی مانند نامه های تجاری یا پایان نامه ها درست نیست.اگر شما قرار است یک مقاله در یک آزمون بنویسید، شکل های کوتاه را به کار نبرید. تنها جایی که شما مجاز به استفاده از شکل های کوتاه هستید، وقتی است که شما در مقاله تان سخن کسی را نقل می کنید مانند یه گفتگو
